This year’s tour, the 41st, started off right here in South Florida, not too far from mine and Wayne’s actual backyard. Friday, January 8 was the kickoff show at the Pompano Beach Amphitheatre.
Yes it was rather late when LRB came onstage but that’s because myself, tons of our friends and a crowd of about 3000 other people kicked off an evening of music with Player (“Baby Come Back,” “This Time I’m In It For Love”) and Ambrosia (“Biggest Part of Me,” “How Much I Feel,” “You’re the Only Woman”). Those two acts got the crowd primed and ready to rock ‘n’ roll and let me tell you the crowd was awesome!
There was an added air of excitement to the night. The guys had been on vacation for three weeks, spending time at home with their families. Everyone had that itch to get back out there on stage. I, too, had that hint of excitement and anticipation to be back out in the crowd seeing our friends from Player and Ambrosia and enjoying the evening with tons of friends from our neighborhood.
There are two things that are really awesome about having a show at a venue just a short drive from our home. We get to spend the evening with all of our dear, dear friends. Once touring season begins, we are continually missing dinner parties, birthday parties, book club, golf and the like. AND, we get to drive home and sleep in our own bed, not a hotel or the tour bus. Now don’t misunderstand, the brand new, never-before-ridden-in bus is FABULOUS (more on that at another time) and some of the hotels are pretty darn fabulous as well, but going home after work…..well it just feels fabulous!
