Hey everybody, we just returned home from nearly three weeks out on the road! Part vacation, part LRB tour. It was a little like my own form of March Madness. Planes and the bus were the mode of transportation and let me tell you, you can command attention when you pull into Napa Valley with a black, shiny tour bus.
Our first day there was Valentine’s Day! What better way to spend the day of love than with friends and wine! We rolled into town a couple minutes shy of our first tasting appointment at Silverado with absolutely stunning views of the valley. We had an abbreviated tour and an amazing tasting out on the veranda.
When I thought the days couldn’t get any better, day three began with a winding drive up Diamond Mountain Road to visit Constant. The weather and the view from up there were stunning. Gargiulo was next, and we ended with Chappellet on the other side of the valley.
Our last day in wine country took us to Sonoma at B.R. Cohn and St. Francis. We stopped for a drink at John Ash, the site where our friends, J & K, got married and then headed to dinner at Willi’s Wine Bar.
As if we hadn’t been to enough wineries, while we were making our way to a LRB show in Wendover, Nevada, we stopped in the Shenandoah Valley near Sacramento and paid visits to Turley, Renwood and Helwig wineries. LRB played at Helwig several years ago so we decided to drop by. They treated us to the most spectacular private dinner in their caves. It was truly a special evening and an excellent way to end a wonderful week in wine country.
